PRE-UNIVERSITY (COMPARISONS)

First of all, this is only the continuation of my story about entering matriculation. After a while I've got an offer letter from UM and instead of making an impulsive decision of dropping out from matriculation college, I decided to consult the student counselor. People generally assume that choosing government matriculation is actually a choice for the people who obtained 'average' SPM results and are not suited for people who choose to study in reputable public universities (UM, UIAM, UKM,) and certainly not for people who choose to go overseas. In this post I'm going to make a comparison for the pre-university programmes  especially for government matriculation and foundation studies also bring some old opinions that are no longer relevant to light.

This may be a simple comparison but I assure you the information I gathered is up to date.
Correction: Matriculation is done for 1/2 years

Other Questions (Q&A)

Q: Matriculation cert holders is inferior to foundation students?
A: No, that is an outdated opinion, upon completing matriculation and foundation (UM, UiTM), ensuring you get a place in a institute is CGPA and curricular marks along with MUET band. Keep in mind about the quota though.

Q: Matriculation students are not qualified to further studies overseas?
A: No. A numerous example of universities that accept matriculation cert holders, click here

Q: Will foundation (UM, UiTM) students be ensured a place in the institution (UM,UiTM)?
A: No, besides the quota your CGPA, curricular marks and MUET band are the only factors that will ensure you to be qualified for a course in a institution.

Q: Is the MUET band a primary factor?
A: Not exactly, some courses in certain institutions will still offer you a place but during undergraduate studies you have to attend MUET courses and pass the specific band before you can graduate.

Q: Obtaining curricular marks in matriculation compared to foundation?
A: In matriculation, the college will try their best to help the students to achieve good marks but for foundation, activities that ensure curricular marks will be held but you yourself have to be active and assertive.

Q: Why government matriculation is usually looked down upon?
A: This is due to the fact that matriculation students hasn't settle down in a university that ensures a spot for them to continue undergraduate studies. This is true, but that doesn't mean they will not be qualified to continue studies in reputable institutions and this goes the same with students who pursue UM and UiTM foundation, they are also not ensured a place in the institution (UM,UiTM). Personally, high-achieving SPM students who pursue matriculation are the people who truly thrive for their success.

Q: Matriculation cert holders are qualified to apply for jobs!?
A: It has been since 2016, click here

Q: Matriculation students have a lesser chance getting into reputable institutions (UM etc.) compared to foundation students?
A: They will refer to the quota for example UM ( PASUM 50%, matriculation 40%, STPM 10%) but they will also refer to your CGPA, curricular marks and MUET band. In a case where a matriculation students with better CGPA, curricular marks and MUET band compared to PASUM student. The matriculation student will certainly get an offer from the institution instead of the PASUM student.
