UEM SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW 2018 (SPM LEAVERS)

First of all, why choose UEM?

Let's be honest, if your an SPM leaver, the scholarship only sponsors you to study locally. Why would you choose this one instead of other scholarships that enables you to study abroad. Lets say, countries like France, Russia, Japan etc. and by trying to promote the scholarship why am I telling you all this?

"With every benefit and positive upbringing something can give you, let's not let contradicting facts or obstacles slide, we must bite the bullet and confront them to reap the full pleasure of the benefit"

Let's get started!
The Big Picture

A few example of companies that offer scholarships.

This is relatable.

How to Hunt for Scholarships

This are a few websites that can help you find a scholarship.

In my opinion, afterschool.com is the most convenient but not the most reliable website to find a scholarship since it tells you the study level ( pre-university, degree) the details of the scholarship and the deadline! Not to mention it filters out your search! Personally, the website is just really pleasing to the eyes.

Even though the website can give you the details of a certain scholarship but don't be fooled! Even this website can give you the wrong info. My personal experience, they had the deadline wrong and also gave out a wrong link to apply for the scholarship. Thank God somehow fate gave me the urge to go to the website itself and check out the deadline itself. I applied for that particular scholarship on the deadline date. I didn't get a call for the interview of that scholarship😂

Also, when I was applying for UEM, the link the website gave me was a link for last years scholarship. Without further due, I filled in the application form anyway. Thankfully, fate wanted me to go to the website  and checked out when the application was opened for myself.

The Moral of The Story

Bear in mind that not all details specified in the websites are true. It's better to check out for yourself.

What you need to know about the UEM Scholarship Programme

What They Don't Tell You.

Note: These are some information that are not mentioned in the website.

  • The scholarship will endorse all your expenses from A-Z including miscellaneous related to your academics that you can claim via a Claim Form and also your transportation to get to your college. For example, if your hometown is in East Malaysia the scholarship will cover your plane ticket expenses. Isn't that awesome.
  • For my batch (Yes, intakes each year are referred as batches), our allowance is RM 500 a month not including the meals 3 times a day at KYUEM. You can save a lot of money.
  • This scholarship will also ask for your form 4 final results, including a certified copy of the results so get that ready. I actually already lost mine a long time ago so I had to call my schools office and ask if they still had a copy  of my results and I also had to drive all the way to my school to get it.
  • The interview is going to be held at Mercu UEM which is situated at Kuala Lumpur. If your from far away places don't let this be a letdown for you. I've met fellow scholars who are from Terengganu, Johor etc. It has been held at Mercu UEM for the all past years.
In case you don't spot the building.

FYI

Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM)

As you have been informed, KYUEM is where you are going to take your A-Levels. KYUEM is a premier A-Level college situated in Lembah Beringin at the Selangor-Perak border which is 12km away from any modern life. So if you successfully obtained the scholarship, come prepared or face the hardship of finding your needs at the nearest town which is 12km away from the college.👌😁

Yes, as scholars you will be partaking the 24 month program. the amount of fee is considerable due to  the colleges prestige and accommodation.
A (terribly made) compilation of photos of KYUEM just to get you excited.
As you can see, KYUEM has a male and female gymnasium, it has an Olympic size swimming pool, seniors stay in the chalets and juniors at the villas, each villa and chalet has an air-conditioned living room, four bedrooms and two toilets and other facilities ( library, classrooms, lecture halls etc) are also air-conditioned. Remember, 50% of the college students there are sponsored students ranging from Petronas to Khazanah Nasional scholars. It's going to be tough competition. Be grateful that UEM is going to sponsor your college fee expenses which is much more higher compared to other A-Level colleges such as Sunway and Taylors. Don't let worldly attachments become an illusion that disables you from achieving your goals. 😛

About A-levels

To clear things up, Advanced levels or A-levels is the curriculum you are going to partake in KYUEM before pursuing studies at renowned international universities as part of the scholarship agreement. To be honest, during writing this post I haven't yet register at KYUEM which is at 31/7 and yes that means you have a lot of downtime as a UEM scholar but please use your time wisely. What I'm trying to conclude as that my knowledge about A-levels is very limited and personally I hate making assumptions and jump into simple conclusions. Everything I'm sharing with you is my personal experience and researched I've made by having conversations with KYUEM seniors through online forums.

A: Seniors stated that they really regret not brushing up on their math. They really insisted to take a look at the syllabus.

Internationally renowned universities in Malaysia
After pursuing pre-university studies at KYUEM, you well be enlrolled in internationally renowned universities in Malaysia. Yes, this scholarship states that scholars will continue studies locally but some institutions have twinning programs where for example you will be doing undergraduate studies in Malaysia and the remaining years abroad according to the institution and if you work hard enough and fate has chosen you to pursue abroad studies in Oxbridge, UEM will still continue to sponsor you so bear this in mind.

An example of renowned universities in Malaysia, Curtin University (top-left), Nottingham University (top-right), Southampton (middle-left), Herriot-Watt (middle-right), Reading University (bottom-left) including Oxbridge (bottom-right).
A Few Tips when Filling Up the Application Form
  • This is the only scholarship that asks for your form 4 final results including a certified copy that has to be scanned for the application.
  • Even after saving what you have filled up, please check your application form each time you log in to continue your session. There can be technical problems. I've experienced during logging in to the website after saving, my grade for my form 4 results changed two times due to technical complications.
  • There will be two essays you have to write for the application. Do the best, be yourself and pour your hearts out.Give your best effort. The first essays question is 'Why do you choose to study your field?' and the second one is ' Why are worthy and what  is your study plan?'.
